Auguste BARRE (1811-1856) Pair of porcelain cookie medallions worked in half-relief representing the profile portrait of Ferdinand-Louis-Philippe-Charles-Henri-Joseph Duc d'Orléans and Helène de Mecklenbourg. Probably made for the wedding of the Duc d'Orléans and the Princesse de Mecklenbourg 1837. They bear a gilded "A. Giroux Cie". Diameter: 15cm; Dimensions with frame: 26 x 22cm. Maison Alphonse Giroux, "le marchand des princes", was a major Parisian manufacturer of luxury furniture and accessories for aristocratic and bourgeois customers, established in 1799 at n°7, rue du Coq Saint-Honoré, then Boulevard des Capucines. Founded by François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux under the name "A. GIROUX à PARIS", it was taken over by the Giroux children and remained active under the name of "Alphonse Giroux et Cie" until 1867, when management was taken over by Ferdinand Duvinage.
