Rare DAGHESTAN (Caucasus) gallery rug, late 19th century Dimensions : 267 x 112cm. Technical characteristics: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A navy counter border with multicolored florets, another with florets and "Z", frame a brick main border with a succession of "Z" motifs. frame a brick main border with a succession of double "S". All three borders enclose a long rectangular ivory field, highlighted by a bluish border with red counters. The ivory field of this prayer rug, dominated by an anthracite mihrab, is adorned with a honeycomb latticework of varied, polychrome flowers. Small animals and small symbols enrich the decor.
